3D Modeling for Games
I held a course on 3D Modeling in Games during my master degree. The course was four to five days long (depending on holiday) and consisted mainly of three parts:
-
Modeling techniques
-
UV-unwrap
-
Texturing
The Course: The goal is to teach the students the theory behind creating game assets. In the first two days they learn about working with 3ds Max and basic modeling techniques like box- and edge modeling. The students also learn about resource management in games. Afterwards they have to put the knowledge to use on a step-by-step crate tutorial (left). Then they learn how to do a simple UV-unwrap. On the final day they learn how to create textures from photographs and basic shader configuration.
About: The project "InformatikWERKstatt" gives students a forum to exchange knowledge in form of a course. Usually the course is held in the last week of the semester break.
